ST camera model evolution and historical data
regarding the imaging CCD used in ST-2000 cameras:

All of the ST-7/8/9/10/2000 models have gone though the same evolution in CCDs and computer interface.  The following sample using the ST-7 applies to all the cameras in the series:

ST-7 = Original camera with parallel port and "pre-E" type CCD with lower QE

ST-7E = Original camera with parallel port and "E" type CCD with higher QE and much improved blue response.   These are the so-called "blue enhanced" CCDs.

ST-7XE = Same as the ST-7E but wuth USB interface instead of parallel

ST-7XME = Same as the ST-7XE but with the latest "ME" version of the blue enhanced CCD with microlenses for increased QE

Add an "I" to any model designation above (e.g., ST-7I or ST-7XMEI) and it means it is an "industrial" version of the camera without the tracking CCD.

CCD evolution in the ST-2000:

The KAI-2000XM CCD is used in all cameras produced before January 2003.  If the camera serial number does not fall into the catagories below, and it was produced in 2002, then it was originally made with the KAI-2000M imaging CCD.

The KAI-2001M CCD is used in all ST-2000XM cameras produced in 2003, up until July, 2004 (serial numbers beginning with 20301xxx and ending with 20406xxx).

The KAI-2020M CCD is used in cameras beginning with serial numbers 20407xxx.
