M42
Gary Stevens
captured this beautiful image of the Great Nebula in Orion using an
ST-8E camera and CFW8 color fitler wheel through a Takahashi FSQ106 F/5 refractor.
The total exposure time was 60 minutes.  Each RGB frame was 4 x 5 minutes.  Gary used a
green luminance layer behind the RGB tricolor image.  Although 60 minutes of   deep red
H-alpha filtered exposure was shot, it was not used in final composition because he felt the
green channel had better contrast and produced a more interesting composition than could
be achieve with the H-a luminance data.  (Click on the image above to see it full size).
