Leica Sport Optics Product Prices

Introduction: The Leica products are so good that one is not likely to be disappointed by any model. However, these are best selected by comparing models side by side in a suitable environment. Some who visit our showroom predisposed to buy one model may develop a preference for another model since another may feel better balanced in their hand, or may have more suitable eye relief. Possibly they realize a 12X binocular is too high in magnification to hand hold steadily, or they seek a wider field of view and so they change to 10X or less. We suggest you visit and try before buying.

Pricing: competition, particularly from mail order oriented stores had by the 1990's become so virulent that it became difficult for one to find a showroom such as ours where they may evaluate product and obtain competent advice. The smaller local specialty shops reduced their selection or closed completely, and customers found they had to buy from one of fewer and fewer mail order oriented houses, most whom operate on such small proft margins that they can not retain helpful staff and whom do not always deliver complete or U.S. registered products for the prices advertised - if not stolen or misappropriated. Manufacturers grew concerned that mail order accounted for a higher percentage of all sales, but sales overall were spiraling downward since mail order houses really do not actually generate new sales by advertising a product, or by demonstrating it. In response to these market changes Leica and others including Carl Zeiss instituted a fixed retail price policy. This provides a set profit margin, usually of about ten or fifteen percent. It is thought that if most or all legitimate merchants comply, then this policy then this should encourage more regional stores to display the products providing the public with ready acess to such fine products.
